Thanks for the tip on the JE rings:D On the 454 rebuild last year I had trouble figureing out the shallow oil ring land on the Gen V 454  I am still not clear on the crank. I understand the Gen VI 454 and 502 crank are NOT interchangeable, but, can I use the Gen V 502 #14097044 crank in a Gen VI block? I plan on having my machinist balance the rotating assembly. |

Scott B,
It is the same Block! 10237292 is the GM Part # . 10237300 is the casting # that is on the block near the bellhousing mount. Rob:D |
In regard to your distributor gear I would go with the new composite gear from comp cams (cheaper thru summit racing though). Many aftermarket roller cams are billet cams and have the gear drive for the distributor cut in them....they'll eat up stock distributor gears in a couple hours....and if you switch to the bronze gears you will only get 80 hours out of them before replacement is required. Just go with the new composite gears right off the bat and they'll work with any type of cam that you use now or later.

Thanks RWS! Nothing worse than having a nice box here, and then seeing a casting number that didn't match :)
We now take you back to our regularly scheduled programming.. Scott B |

The cast iron 454 crankshaft is balanced different than the steel 454 and uses a different flywheel (only on the Gen V and VI). Sincerely Dennis Moore |
I have a stock crank and cam out of a 1999 502 that I am selling.

I have a set of 4.53 spr pistons with 10 hours and good rings. Would have to take the 502 block to 4.5 .030 over bore, but they are very nice forged pistons with low hours.

Not sure if said.
You will need a electric fuel pump, Different remote oil adapter, Flywheel. |
gen v and gen 6 harmonic balancer comppatability
Hello, I am new to the forum and have a harmonic balancer question.
Can anyone please tell Me if a harmonic balancer part # 10216452 will work on a gen V cast crank motor? I think that part # is for a gen VI motor but I am not sure if they are compatible. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you Kurt Zimmie |
