I've lost three ( 3 ) of the blue impellers over the past four months. When I paid the premium price, I really thought I would get extreme service from these pieces.
My impellers were "set'. They weren't destroyed, just working poorly and letting engines overheat.
Anyone have experience, good or bad.

I ran a side by side test, the black Merc impeller did better. Unless you are seeing a lot of air or run it on the trailer (bad) stick with the black ones. My blue (Globe) barely lasted a year with no air and some sand.

I am using Gen V with fuel pump and fresh water pump together. Year model is 1996.
I had some issues with low water pickups a year ago and the blue impellers seemed a good answer for added insurance. I got rid of the low water pickup drives but kept the impellers. The claim was they could run dry for up to 15 minutes before self destructing whereas the Merc would destroy it's self in less than a minute.
I have been dissappointed to say the least. The blue cost considerably more and just have not given the results I was hoping for.
I'm back with standard style Merc, Jabsco or Sierra I guess.

The problem I had with the Merc. impellers was that they kept shedding whole blades but showed no wear otherwise, and they weren't run dry. I went to "Blue" cause they were less brittle/more flexible and have had good luck with them so far. I guess there IS a drop in water PRESSURE with them but I still get more than enough VOLUME. But thanks for the warning. I will check things out periodically even if it IS a royal pain to get to. Also, I find my supplier's price for Merc. and "Blue" to be comparable. --- Jer
