I need some help with a 496 Vortec I have aquired...
I think it is considered a "long block". It has no alternator, injectors, throttle body, harness (fuel injection or engine),plugs, exhaust or computer.
The question is where is a good place to start looking for these parts thatare pre-owned?
I have zero knowledge regarding regarding the right items that would work on this motor so if you guys could post some model #'s and manufacturers that would be great!
thanks for the help!

Well I do not know how set you are on running this with EFI. If it is a 496 from a truck I would go after market fuel injection if you REALLY want EFI. If it is a marine 496 the you may be able to find the parts, I do not know where unfortunately.
Only problem with EFI is you need to go with a proven set up or better yet invest in an after market (non OEM) that you can tune especially if you want to make HP improvements. Still should plan on dyno time unless you have the time and enjoy this type of tuning. Can be quite time consuming.
If you are not set on EFI I would just go with a carburetor set up and MSD or some other ignition you can run a RPM limiter on. Probably the cheaper route if cost is an issue.
Sorry not much help on your original question. Just my .02
