Question FloScan Anyone Using?

Hey Everyone,

Is anyone using a floscan fuel measureing device to find the sweet spot for fuel consumption and to measure how many gallons of gas they have gone through?

Looking for comments on installation on a new 496HO

Thanks,
Dave

I am just afraid I may burn way more than anticipated going from a 21' 5.0L to the 28' 496HO.

Also, I am always having to put in gas for fear of not really knowing how much is left and how much I have burned. None of my boats have ever had a fuel gauge with any accuracy!

I have a 99 Baja 232 with a 7.4 (454) MPI in it. I don't have a Floscan, but I have a Faria fuel flow manager to match the rest of my guages. It's the best $250 I ever spent. It was pretty easy to install, just cut the rubber fuel line between the engine and fuel filter and tap in the sender, mount the guage, and wire power to it. Took me an hour and that included cutting the hole in the dash. At cruising speed which is about 40-45 for me, I'm burning about 14-15 GPH. At WOT it's like 30 GPH. Plus you reset it when you fill the tank and it will tell you how much fuel you've burned. It's pretty damn accurate too, way more than the fuel guage.

Hey Lucky,

I installed a Twin Scan Flo Scan unit on my 42 Sonic and I can tell you it is the best addition on my boat. I have twin 502 MPI's in my boat. The consumption on my 42 is about 30 gallons an hour at 50 mph. What the Flo Scan allows me to do is plan how much I will burn on any trip. You can find the sweet spot by looking at gph X mph and decide what you want. It's great for long trips and planning...Like Sutphen30 said you were warned about knowing...........

I use a floscan and it is great. As far as finding the best cruise I dont know but the digital totalizer is sweet. I would reset it to zero at the beginning of my trip and NEVER worry about running out of gas as the needle on the gas gauge went to low because I knew exactly how much I used.

Yes I ordered my Floscan yesterday from Consumers Marine. Floscan has to build it because I need the 50gph meter.

The guys at Sunsation are going to do the installation so it will be included right in the factory dash and wiring.

I can't wait!

Thanks,
Dave

The Sonic28, You claim to use them on the EFI engines. How does the floscan compensate for the return line fuel? Would that not give a false reading of use?

That is easy, the merc EFI's do not have a return line. That is why they are prone to vapor lock. So unless you have modified the fuel system from Merc, this is not a problem.

Jimjomack, Von Bongo is correct there is no return line in the system. The system is calibrated by setting the gauge to the type of flow senser that is in the unit. You run the tanks down to a couple of gallons and then add let say 50 gallons and run the until you are back to couple of gallons and add or subtract that amount and you are there.. Once you get it set up it is dead on beacuse it measures between the tank and the pump......

Hello Guys,

I did buy the Floscan and had it dropped shipped to Sunsation who just finnished my 288 with 496HO.

I picked the 50gph gauge with all white. You can not tell it was not a factory option.

Thanks again to the Sunsation guys. They really do over deliver!
