Default Ford 5.4 powerchips

Anyone install this in their 5.4L? Curious about the results.
Thanks

I put a JET chip in a 98 Expedition. I did it mostly for gas milage. It didn't seem to help much. As far as performance, about the same effect as the milage. I was told, if I ran a higher octane gas, I would proably get better milage, and more performance. The whole idea was to save some money on gas. Not spend more money on a higher grade of gas.

Thanks. Thats what I was looking for. A couple yrs ago when I first checked into it, I was told I would have to run premium, so I let it go. Was just curious if they had changed any.

Have you tried the Hypertech program? I have heard good things about it.

Any performance chip will require premium. That's about the only way to get the gains. Although, a chip like Superchip does a lot more. About the best thing is the transmission. Even a 2 program flip chip with a 87 octane program and any other (like the standard program which requires 91+) is worth it.

Ford pulls timing and line pressure for the shifts (Expedition for example) so that the shifts are smooth. SC eliminates pulling timing and it boosts line pressure slightly. I also installed a Transgo shift kit and left the Superchip alone. A lot of people have the program reflashed not to increase pressure.

On I believe it's 99+ and newer, you cna run premium and within about 200-300 miles the ECM will adapt toa degree and actuall add a littel timing. MPG should go up a little too.

With the chip and other mods, my 2000 gets 11-12 MPG towing 7000-7500 lbs. A best of about 18-19 HWY. Mines got a 3:55 rear.

While none of them will turn it into a race truck, Superchips is the way to go I think. But if you want it for beter MPH only, don't bother. The gain is slight and the price of fuel eats that up. It'd probably take about 350 years to recoup the cost of the chip in fuel. But it makes it a little more fun to drive.....

Minimal gains as described above. Close to the same horsepower gains by going to a cold thermostat, bumping the timing (gotta pull the advancer plug toset the static timing), and use premium fuel.

Transmission behavior is by far the best part of a chip change.
