versus the 731 @ 226/234 on 112 .587/.610
and the 741 @ 234/242 on 112 .610 / .632
In a nut shell with GM heads the 731 will be good for about 20 more hp then the edelbrook, the edelbrook will be easier on springs and it can use stock GM lifters since its under .56 lift. The 741 will be good for another 20hp over the 731 but peak higher @ 5500. These differences in hp will be larger with better heads etc

Pocket port the heads, single plane intake, roller rockers, slide in a mild SOLID roller 252/258 @.050 .700" lift 114CL, 850 double pumper. Turn it 5800 and you will have close to 600HP RELIABLE. I did this to a previous 502 and it made around 630HP. (that was with a full port and 3 angle valve job.) Put on Jesel rockers and you will only need to set lash once or twice a season.
Use Crower lifters, not the Comp JUNK!
Talk with Dean Nickerson for the cam.

Why not put a set of 420 megblowers on them? Twin 750 Holleys and run 4-5 lbs boost. No need of an intercooler. That should put you well over 500hp and very reliable. Stay out of the engine and exhaust if you want. Or add exhaust and cam for a little more.

Just a dumb Question, but I've seen 502/502's for
sale at Danbury Marine for 6500. Has anyone used
these engines? Just seems like, anyway you slice
it, I'm lookin at 6 grand per engine. Might as well
have 2 brand new engines pushing 500 H-P,
and keep my old ones for spares.

saltwater and aluminum don't mix well. The 502/502 has aluminum heads.
Dart single plane marine intakes and Mercruiser aluminum dual plane intakes have bronze liners in their water passages for corrosion resistance.
