Question Converting from hyd assist to full hyd?

What is involved in converting from hydraulic assist (Brazil type) to full hydraulic? I currently have a Marine Machine single ram setup run off the Brazil valve.
Is it a costly adventure?
Thanks,
Dave

I am not 100% sure about Marine Machine parts, but with Imcos', I am sure you can use the same rams from a half system in a full system. you would have to get rid of the Brazil valve you have, and get a full hydraulic helm and run 4 lines from the helm back. The difficult part might be getting the helm in behind the dash. That would depend on how much clearance and accessibilty you have back there.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing myself. Mine is a WPM Racing system, and they said it would run approximately $1,000. That is a tilt helm, all the hoses, and fittings.

You'll need a hydraulic helm unit, (3) high pressure hoses and a low pressure hose. Most people run an expansion tank with locking cap to help bleed the system and maintain fluid levels without messing up the bilge.

Approximate cost(s):

Used helm unit with steering adapter . . 300.00 - 500.00

Hoses from Napa or Hydraulic dist . . . . . < 250.00

Expansion tank . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 150.00

These are approximate prices, depends on if you can find good deals. The $$ is worth it especially if you have high HP

I really like the Marine Machine stuff. You might want to check with Mike Mays at C.P. Performance for advice. I know he carries it and is a very good guy to deal with.
