What options are there for ant. for fm radio and VHF. I am looking for something that is low profile. Most of the boats that you see in the mag. don't seem to have any !!. Is there such a product???

I have had good luck with the stainless steel shakespear unit. West marine sells a splitter for it to FM/AM radio.

Last night I was looking in the West cat. , that's exactly what I was considering. Are you using the splitter for both Fm and VHF.

Currently I do not use the splitter. But I have considered adding it several times. My radio reception is not that good and I really do need it.

I have been told that it does work good!

My vhf antenia is inside the gunnal, bolted to a bulkhead. Reduces distance, but works fine within a couple of miles or so.

I saw a vee with 2 8' fiberglass antennas hung under the deck. One was mounted at the highest point across the inside of the transom (tip was broken and bent 90 degrees to fit). Other was under the side gunwale.

He said either way you looked at the boat, you essentially got an 8' cross section. He also said it worked well.

Makes sense, cause a single under the gunwale would present only a "point" antenna to the front and back (which sucks).

All of my elctronics are in a single cabinette in the entryway into the cabin. I simply have the antena lead from the stereo tie wrapped to my VHF coax. It works perfect for me on Lake Michigan or sitting in my shop. For best reception I have to raise the VHF a little.

The AM/FM splitter used with my 8' VHF antenna works great. I can get Grand Rapids stations when I am on Lake Michigan that are at least 30 miles away. Could not do that with the stock little antenna wire under the helm.

When I purchased the boat I ditched the big 'ol whip and replaced it with one like Dock Holiday has.
I was told that it will would not reach out very well.
NOT!!! Works very well out on Lake Michigan.
