Here is some more of what I had...

Thanks RT,

My first 41 Apache had those motors. Lot's of problems with broken rocker arms (bad batch from GM, they said). Burned some oil from the beginning, but no major problems once the rocker arms were replaced.
I had C&G rebuild them after the first summer to 650's (cam and heads). Then the transmissions had continuing problems (Speedmaster 3's). |
Firewalker, here's something to consider...
Just remember that the Merc 540"/575hp engine has a mechanical cam as mentioned above----that means maintenance---periodic valve train adjustments. Which isn't always the best way to go these days. You could always add a hydaulic roller cam which will eliminate the need for pain in the arse valve train adjustments and be much better off-------that is of course unless you enjoy or DON'T mind doing maintenance on the valve train. |
Have 2 of those in my boat, no problems after first season. I changed cam to a hydraulic roller, crane 139651 and it works great.
Some additional info: Pistons, JE Block, Bowtie Crank, also Hank the Crank Produced 1986-1992 If you want photos or any other info please mail me at [email protected] Have a nice day! /Torbjorn |
My friend just bought a Top Gun -87, the boat is in mint condition and havn´t been run the last 5-6 years. We fired the engines and everything spun well, but for now I woundering how long is the service interval for the vale train adjustment?
