Rtech Supersystem exceeds 1000 HP
I just got a call from Dean Nickerson today. Back in October we reached 950 HP on his 498 stroker BBC using a V-7 compressor and supercooler @ 6000 RPM and 8.5 psi. The engine is well built with after market rotating assembly and 8.25:1 forged pistons. Heads are ported GM cast iron with a solid roller cam. Over 6000 RPM the blower belt started slipping.
Dean just dynoed the engine again using a slightly larger V-4 compressor. This was enough to take the engine to 1013 HP @ 6000 RPM and 9.5 psi. This engine runs on 93 octane and Dean has no concerns about detonation. The solid roller and the RPM may be too much for most boaters, but a 540 with AFR heads would deliver this much power at 5400 RPM using a hydraulic roller cam.
We were very happy with the results in October, but there is something special about breaking the 1000 HP barrier.

Airpacker:
I got the EFI manifold from your source, thanks for the referral. It looks like I can use the same intercooler inside a new upper plenum. A new round throttle body and a bypass valve will be part of the kit. I have to get back to that; it has potential. But I have been a little distracted by the secret weapon design.

Tomcat, which EFI do you have now 500hp or the 502mpi. Dec 28 th I emptied out my storage unit and have the 502mpi still here. I need your address again to ship if you need it. Again sorry for the time lapse...Moving does suck,I had forgot how bad. 1000 is special, does Dean sell a copy of this cam for interested parties? Greg

Hi Greg:
The intake I have is the blue one from the HP500EFI. With the upper plenum removed it is 6" high versus the 7" that you measured. If you can ship your 502MPI intake I would really appreciate it, because I want to use the same intercooler and round throttle body on both with different base plates to match the different lower intakes. If I have both intakes I can make sure this works.
Dean will port your heads and sell you the cam. There is another OSO member doing this right now. He is also adding the 4.25 crank for 540 CID and using an M-3. I will send you a PM with details.
Thanks,
Tom

Tomcat I wanted to pass along something on fuel injection that you may already know, however just trying to pass along some info that may assist you in pushing the envelope. Probe Industries makes a 90 degree elbow that mates to a 4150 carb flange. This allows you to run a round TB(Ford design) which mates directly to the 4 inch rubber hose from a vortech or Procharger. gives you a lot of flexibility in mounting your intercooler.
