OT: Combustion Chamber Cleaner
#2
Water.
Out of your garden hose.
At full operating temp, use a mist nozzle and rev to around 2000 and blow in as much mist as it will handle in 3 second shots followed by 5 seconds to get the chamber temps back up. The water hits the carbon and causes it to fracture and blow out the exhaust. Watch the black nasty spot under the tailpipe on your driveway.
The catch is that with the 5.0, you will need to disconnect the air hose at the throttle body to do this. With the hose disconnected, the mass air sensor will be reading no airflow. You'll need to hold the throttle plate steady, but it will run. Moving the throttle plate will confuse it, so it is kind of difficult to do this on that style of EFI.

Evinrude makes a carbon busting additive. It comes in a can for your gas tank, as well as a spray you can shoot down the throttle body. It works real well. We use it on everything from outboards, I/O's, to our own vehicles. It's a bit safer than a garden hose too. Get it at any Evinrude/Johnson dealer.
