What kind of heads for a SBC 350?

The heads in the formula were 882 castings with a straight plug design. Will an angle plug head work with the manifolds? I am looking at a set of sportsman 2's to replace the stockers.

if you use angle plugs you'll likely have to remove the exhaust manifolds to install or remove spark plugs.
for the money the pro-action iron lightnings are my choice... i flowed mine before i assembled and they were pretty close to advertised numbers... they come with all of the bells and whistles in either bare castings or complete assemblies... you can find em at summit racing.
no matter what you use i would suggest the striaght plug heads. just for ease of maintenance

Speaking of smallblock heads, I spent a few hours with a cool one Friday. It was a custom head, based on the GM aluminum head. It had both sides (intake and exhaust) cut off of it and 1.5" plate aluminum welded on. Ports all moved around, need to remove port plugs to get to the head bolts. Titanium Del West valves w 5/16 stems. Ports big enough for a 572. Custom Jesel rocker setup.
1.185" lift. 545 pounds on the seat. 2.25" installed height on the springs. Lash caps. Water outlet on FRONT of head. Mated to a custom sheetmetal intake.
2 1050 Dominators.
359" smallblock 3 3/8 stroke. Shifts at 10,800rpm.
C24 race gas in a C/Altered Cavalier drag car. High 7's in the quarter. Belongs to Larry Sexton, if you've heard of him (he's a bigshot around here).
Maybe you need a set of those.

I would use AFR heads. In my book there at the top of the list for being the best. I run a set of 210 cc AFRs on my stroker.
They have angle plugs like this \ / \ /, and I can get the plugs outta very easy with my EMI exhaust. I check my plugs at least once a week and change plugs once a month ( cause I run 110 leaded fuel).
Mcollinstn.. Thats not a small block.. Thats a damn monster

I thought so- they are terrific cylinder heads, just not the greatest for those in a salt-water environment.
I think the World Products Sportsmens are about as good as it gets for those that may be in fresh or salt water- although the Vortec purchase price is originally cheaper, it takes a lot of cash to get them to compete with the way the Sportsmens come in the box.
Happy octane, Trav
