procharger

hey guys, I am going to put a m1 intercooled procharger on my built 502. Wondering if any out there who has great succses would be willling to give me a little input on setting this up? Of course I'm looking 4 reliabillty. MY plans include a holley blue pump , Areomotive boost reffrencing regulator, MSD timming boost master. I am running a MSD distributer w/ 6al. with 36 degres total advance. The I bought was 2nd hand and it came w/ 650 double pumper. I currently have a street avenger 870 on my boat ( I know not marinized) but any way, should I use the 870,650 or should I buy a new 750 carb boby from proform? Any possitive input would be greatly appreicated, because I've heard all negativaty about this set up but I believe that if it was a **** set up the company would not be selling it.. So flood me with your knowledge, and thanks again guys.

I really like the Aeromotive A1000 pump for this application. Run a return line back to the tank.

I would not use the MSD boost retard box. If it malfunctions (and it will) you will have detonation problems.Use the standard marine box. Set you timing at 30 deg. total.

Dean Nickerson has countless hours of R&D setting up Holleys for centrifugal superchargers. Nickerson can sell you a carb that will be pretty much spot-on for your application.

If you really want to make some big power go with the R-tech Supercooler.

Check out the March issue of Family & Performance Boating magazine. There is a really good article about installing the Supercooler on a M1 Procharged 502.(gained 8+ mph over the stock Procharger system)

Good Luck,

Kurt

One post & biggus sums it up. Good & enought fuel, keep it cool, well set up carb & you will be happy. Take your MSD apart & turn the spring base around. That will lock the advance down. Set timing at 30.

if I lock the timing down how difficult will it be to start? Because right now I'm set at 12 to start. Thanks

The Holly pump is not large enough for the blower set up.
You will need .55lbs of fuel per horsepower made plus
a boost reference regulator.
I also would suggest the Magna Flow or Aeromotive
pump and regulator.

Two absolutes here from my experience with two procharged boats:
Use the Aeromotive A1000 pump with the Aeromotive regulator. Earlier reply mentioned 55# pressure- true, but only with fuel injection. 7-8# carb'd but boost referenced with the Aeromotive regulator. Fuel MUST be boost referenced or fuel flow will decrease while under boost (only with blow thru carb or fuel inj situation).
Nickerson carbs cannot be beat. You will have NO transom soot, instant starts & you MAY have to adjust the idle speed after you recieve it. He runs every carb on his test 502/procharger setup. He did much developement work with Procharger from their inception.
Add a fuel pressure gauge, boost gauge & exhaust temp gauge. This is very important to watch exhaust temp. Over 1250* you will melt pistons (been there!!).
A thermostat is NOT recommended by Procharger, but may be run if you drill 3 holes around the 'stat to keep water flowing. Use a stat only if you cannot get your engine or oil temp up to normal range.
Put your intercooler water dump out the side so you can see it easily at all times.

Have fun!!

I have run the locked out & 30 degrees for 2 years now. Wish I had done in many years earlier. NO problem starting hot or cold.

Excellent advice! Also make sure your fuel lines and pick up tube in the tank is 1/2". You will need to run a return line from the regulator back to the tank for unused fuel. Mine is run through a fuel cooler before returning to the tank because the pump can heat the fuel. I believe my timing is 28 degrees.
