Default Tuning Merc EFI

I'm helping a friend build a Procharged engine and he wants to continue to use Merc EFI. I'm expereinced with tuning FAST, Accel DFI, and GM EFI so I'm familiar with EFI tuning, but 'm not familiar with Merc's EFI software. Can anyone tell me if there are software packages available to reprogram Merc EFI calibrations? If so, where can I purchase it. I'm assuming there must be something similar to automotive EFI systems that can be tuned via laptop with the appropriate software. Thanks.

No such is out there. 'Propriatary information'. There are many shops which can download thier programs. It sucks.

Okay, well GM EFI is proprietary information too, but there are several aftermarker software programs which allow you to "hack" it. Nothing like that exists for Merc EFI? Obviously it can be done, I'm surprised it hasn't been done already if that's truely the case.

I know I'm not the first to want to hot rod Merc EFI?

There are no programing packages available. However, there is help available from Precision Marine in Kenner La. Call them, tell them what you have and just send the ecm to them. The number is 1-504-469-2463. Ask for Mark. Hope this helps.

Monty, I agree with you, it can be done.
You are definitely not the first to want it. I would love to get a program like that, as would hundreds of people on this board. But I haven't seen anything like that available anywhere. I know ASM and Whipple both reprogram ecu's.
Let us know what you find!

There are only three places in the country that I am aware of that can alter the program, Whipple, AZ Speed and some one in Louisiana. A friend of mine swapped out the Merc stuff for an aftermarket unit and is happy as can be. Makes all the changes he needs on the dyno and on the water with a lap top.

This place carries the ECM that can just plug into the merc harness, and it gives you lap top control.

I think after talking to Dustin at Whipple and Jim at AS&M at Miami, that they have some licensing agreements from Mercury to do some ECM changes on settings for customers ECM's that are reprogrammed with the sale of their aftermarket systems only. I believe that if they do any ECM changes on Mercury's Motorola unit only, they will be in trouble on their licensing agreement. I know AS&M sells an all new reprogrambable MEFI3 unit with their new manifold for the 496 and this seems to be an expensive but workable item. We are about to approach Mercury about the same issues on our new 496 upgrades. We will keep you posted. Wish us Luck! "Kind of a Jack & Beanstock type situation"!
