Raylar, do you have plans to R & D the new heads during an in-water application? I was just noticing the post by Bajavet re: the AZ L-18 intake and bet he wished he had had some more real-life data before making his decision to buy. Just wondering. Thanks.

Raylar,

Sounds like you're introducing great new product for the 496's. It's definately exciting and your insightful answers are very helpful.

Dustin at Whipple has exclusive rights from Merc to reprogram the ECU's. I wonder if it might not be beneficial to give him a shout.

I wonder what hp a whipple, in conjunction with your heads could produce?

Thanks for your replies. Our heads are in actual dyno & durability evaluation right now and we will be sending heads to Flagship Marine for dyno testing and we are taking a complete motor to Whipple's dyno for independent evaluations. I have had direct conversations with Dustin at Whipple and he is eager to test our heads and try his supercharger on them. We will also be putting our heads on a project boat to be annouced soon and I am confident that everyone who uses our heads will be smiling after they run them. Our own dyno results (un-doctored) will be put on our website for everyone to see very soon.
We won't sell anything that does not produce real verifiable results, that's our pledge and our word!

Raylar, I have one more question:
Can you tell me what grade and temper the aluminum is? Do you have a spec number, whether AMS or QQ-A- ?

Thanks.

Raylar,

What you're doing sounds really interesting. I've got a whippled 496 mag HO making 620HP on the dyno. Any idea how your heads would work with my set up? Perhaps you should give Dustin a call and let him play with a set on his dyno.

Kokopelli, Baja Daze and chris 232:
Yes the heads will not be a problem in saltwater because all 496's are freshwater cooled. Besides that our heads are Alcoa T6-356AA ingot and are heat treated and hard anodized after finish machining! I have talked to Dustin several times and we are taking a motor to him later in April for a dyno run on his dyno to set the heads up with his charger and program a special recalibration to optimize this setup. Also our new intake manifold will be available in April. You guys should check out tour new website at www.raylarengine.com All the specs, data, flow charts and accessories are there for a real educational expierence, and we will be posting new 496 information on an ongoing basis. Thanks for the replies. Its nice to see everyone getting excited about the future of the 496!
