Default prop for 24 outlaw 540

I blew my engine in my boat last year and need some prop suggestions for the new engine. I have a 1993 baja outlaw with a 502 running a 23p mirage. This was last years combo before I blew it up. I was getting 72mph on the speedo at 5200 rpm's. I had the engine rebuilt with a stroker crank. It now works out to 555 cubic inches with (guessing) 625hp. Where should I start for propping this new combo? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same boat and your're 72 on the speedo is closer to 62. I ran the same prop close to the same rpms.
I tried several props with varying results. For the best stability, I would use a Bravo 1 and start with a 26"
A Mirage plus with more pitch will be faster, but will be tough to get an plane and will probably make the boat real loose.

You need to know at what rpm your new motor will develop it's max HP. If it's the same as the old motor then a higher pitch prop will be needed.

Since you don't have a dyno run on your motor the best thing to do is to run a prop in several different pitch props. For example the Bravo 1. In your case maybe a 24, 26 and 28. You can then see at what rpm the boat boat performed the best and at what rpm you obtained max speed.

You can then make an educated decision as to which prop pitch is the best for your motor.

If you do not have access to different props we have test props. Let us know if we can help.

24 Outlaw,
Matt & Julie (Throttle up)hooked us upo. Tried all different props. Allan 4 & myself are both runnibg the Rev 4 prop. I have a HP 500 +mods , around 550hp & I use 23" pitch Rev 4 , 5200 rpm. The 24 Outlaw hull is heavy & not very efficient. They require a ton of hp to get em moving. The Rev 4 works because it pick the boat up & out of the water.
Contact Throttle up & they have trial props you can use.

I will probably get the engine dynoed. It is almost finished now. I am curious of the actual power anyway. I forgot to mention the cam is a crane 731. Testing to find the right prop may be the way to go. What are your thoughts on 3 or 4 blade? Will the 4 blade help it out of the hole? The mirage with the 502 was a rocket out of the hole.

Try a Rev 4, it will get you up on a plane real fast. Just try one, I have tried every prop (thanks to Throttle Up) & the Rev 4 worked the best by far.

I am with Griff ,probably staring with a 26 bravo-one would be a great prop to try,and yes like the guys sat,try different props if you can.

I think though with the hp you have you will want a four blade for the stability reason a the 3 blade will really be squirrelly on top end.
