With your boat, you'd do much better with a Laser II than a Mirage Plus. The Mirage Plus really works best on 22+ foot boats with big block power. I also don't agree that the Vengeance is crap. It's not top of the line, but it is a good solid prop. If you have a hole burning in your pocket, try a Laser II 23P. Otherwise, stick with what you have.

By the way, how did you end up with a 350Mag in your 20 Outlaw? I thought the 5.0MPI was the only available motor.

The vengence has a smaller diameter.

No one said it was crap, just not the best performer out there. Let's face it, it's not a top of the line prop.

My old Baja Hammer, which was 21 feet, 3300# and had a 350 MAG(very similar to pointerman's boat, btw) came with a vengence 23P...I put on a 19P Mirage Plus and it totally blew it away! I gained about 3 mph top end with a much better cruise.

Default ric 232

is right again, the laser -two 23 pitch is the best prop for the 20 outlaw, usually they come equipped with a veng, its not that bad ON THIS BOAT. and its a pretty darn good prop for a 20ft boat or smaller with a mercruiser.

the laser two- will give a little better bow-lift ,
and acts, and looks like a mirage .

usually on this set-up the laser -two runs about 2.5 mph faster over the Veng.

Nick, it sounds like you had the wrong pitch to begin with. You would've had a 1.50 gear (or 1.47 if it was an Alpha) which means you should have had a 21P. Otherwise, you would have never gained speed going from a 23 to a 19.

All I'm saying is that with the size of a 20 Outlaw and the power he has, the Mirage Plus is really too big of a prop. He will lose holeshot because of there isn't enough low-end torque on tap to drive the prop. (Unless he drops to 21P as you suggested, in which case he will lose top end). Even if he does gain top-end, he'll gain more with a Laser II because he most likely won't have to drop to a 21P. For anything larger than a 20 Outlaw or 202 Islander, the Mirage is most likely the better prop.

You very well may be right, Ric.

Just want to relay the point that the 19P Mirage performed very well on my Hammer, a similar boat in size and set-up.

Thanks for all the info. I'll try it for a month or so with the current prop and if the hole shot is plenty quick I'll go ahead and purchase a Laser II to see if I can get any speed gains and still maintain a decent hold shot. I do plan on using this boat for tubing, skiing, etc. so I do need to maintain quick planing capabilities. I am hoping that the trim tabs will also help with that when skiing.

Good question. My boat was apparently made custom for as a retirement gift for a Baja Exec (according to the dealer). He put a few hours on it and then signed it over to the dealer for sale. It hasn't ever been registered so it still carries the full warranty on motor and hull. It has a few other options that you don't normally see coming out on the 20. I really don't like the white 20 Outlaw and hadn't planned on buying one until I saw this particular boat.

Default on the 20' outlaw

what type of exhaust comes with it?

thru -transom with silent choice?

or thru prop only?

if it's thru prop the Laser would really benefit with the vent holes in the hub barrel.

My boat has Corsa Quick & Quiet so running at speed will be thru transom.

Any other benefits to the Laser?
