Default Ignition questions

I have a 468 with 731 crane cam Merlin heads and a 750 Holley on a Dart manifold. The builder used a Thunderbolt distributor and a V6 ignition module. I am switching over to an MSD system. Do you still use the V6 ignition module, or does the MSD box take care of things. I understand the V6 Module controls the advance, but that is about the extent of my knowledge. I know for you guys, this is some pretty basic stuff, but it is greek to me.

What exactly do you mean when you say that you are switching over to MSD ignition?? Are you simply adding an MSD box to your existing distributor? Or are you going for the complete MSD package, distributor and box?

I am switching the complete package. Distributor, Box, Coil, Wires, shift assist.

save your Thunderbolt IV...you will want to go back to it after the MSD leaves you stranded....B.T.D.T.

Ditto, ran 1/2 of last year one side with, one without due to failure. I didn't see any difference either. If I had it to do over I'd save my $500, the tbolt is a good ignition.

But personally , I've seen too many go south to take a chance on the water. There's enough problems waiting out there
The only problem I've ever had with a Thunderbolt is when some A-hole knocked one of the clips off the kill switches and I didn't notice till the next day(after a 20 mile ride home in the dark on one engine). I'll be more careful putting the camera away from now on

And, if all it does is quit you can consider yourself lucky. Once in a while the timing circuit goes nuts and advances the timing enough to hole a piston and byby engine. T4 is good ignition. Never had a problem with the Crane hi-6's I had on the formula.

Has anyone ever tried to use the MSD stand-alone rev limiter?

I know the 500EFI has a rev limiter built in but it supposedly shuts off the fuel, not the ignition so it runs real lean for a few seconds.

I was informed that I needed to get an MSD ignition box just to get the soft touch rev limiter.
