Procharged engine temp

I have a procharged 502. the procharger people leave out the t-stat to fool the comp. into running richer. I don't have a problem with that but my temps never get over 130 degrees which is way too cold for the engine to be running. does any one have the wiring diagram for a '97 502 mercruiser? i want to move the computer reading to the cross over pipe and install a t-stat but wire my gauge so i get the engine temp. any ideas? has anyone done something similar. thanks ,ken

I had bad luck with prochargers design,I had the computer reprogrammed . Without the thermostat it would never get warm enough to get out of cold start mode. Here is what I did, stock thermostat housing stock water pump, moved intercooler over. With the thermostat in with a crossover I checked my block water pressure and it was 45 lbs at 50 mph. Tried a pressure valve and it was a pain, temp was not steady, now it should have a very steady temp, cold start mode shuts off at 105 degrees. Temp stays right on 120!

By the way, it stays at 120 because I put a 120 stat in.

Very nice install. I'm starting to design a supercooler for the 502 MPI engine. Would you like to be a guinea pig?

What boat is that? It looks like the engine hatch on Turbojack's boat.

Eliminator daytona. Are you in the chiller buisness . Let me know.I am always interested.

blown bat, nice work! where did you get the tubing and who bent it up? I also have prochargers on my ride, and have the same problem!

blownboat 03-10-2004 10:18 AM

I think I like that name better than mine, blownbat sounds better. I will have to look up where I ordered the tubing from. I started out with one strait piece and 6- 90 degree bends and my friend is a street rod fabricator. We cut and welded them together. I like prochargers charger but who ever designed the install kit did not do very well. I am much happier now.

Yes, you might say I'm in the chiller business. How much clearance do you have between the top of the intake manifold/throttle body and the engine hatch?

blownboat 03-11-2004 09:40 PM

4 inches clearance.

Thanks Blownboat.

I will be starting work on the design of a Supercooler for the 502 MPI next week. I sent you a PM.

im having the same trouble getting the engine warm with a carborated hp 500 with a intercooled pro charger m1sc.im in CT and the water is still in the 40s and i want to take the boat out soon.in the directions for the pro charger it says dont run a thermostat.but running it with the garden hose this weekend for 20+ mintutes dosnt even move the water or oil temp without a t stat.i called procharger and they said i can run one if i drill a couple 1/8 inch holes in it.but after reading this post it looks like it might make to much water pressure with a t stat installed?.not sure what to do.i dont a have water pressure gauge and really dont feel like hooking one up.the boat is a 29 krytonite and should go 90+ and has a low water pickup so im sure it already has a lot of water pressure without it be held back by the t stat
