Ok, those who have done it.... Ours was sanded, and then painted. Could you put a step by step list, including products, and techniques for us planning on doing it?

look into having blasted with walnut shells (not sand blast), will take away the stripping by hand anyway.

Just read an article about blasting with BAKING SODA. Sounds like it is the stuff. They are doing it on Texas and some other states, although there are soda blasting facilities everywhere.

Does not damage the gel. Strips paint in under an hour.
I believe they charge like $15/foot for a sportboat.

I did it with my boat and the Gel under it was not salvagable. I just reaprayed with new gel and it now looks great.
