We have a drip line next to the wood blade (big teeth) on our band saw and we saw 1/2" aluminum all the time and we use WD40 to feed the line. works like a champ. Just wear your eye protection, feed slow and keep your damn fingers away from the blade!

One place I worked had a sort of miter saw that was designed just for cutting aluminum. It too used a carbide tiped blade but it was about 18-20" in diameter. To keep the aluminum from sticking to the blade we used a special wax or waxy grease. It was in stick form and we'd apply it before each cut.

Have you tried the Craftsman Twin Cutter?
Side by side carbide blades cutting in opposite directions.
Leaves a smooth edge.

Plunge cuts with negligible kickback.

On a related note, I am looking for a pc of aluminum stock roughly 4" X 10" X 24" to make an exhaust riser spacer, I have looked on Ebay and seen prices in the $400 range, what is going on? Anyone have a good source for this?

wow, I have a half-round hunk of solid aluminum that weighs about 50-lbs. I was using it for a doorstop but maybe I will sell it

I doubt they would ship, besides you walk the yard & select what you want. Shipping would be outrageous!!

$3.50 to $4.50 a pound is more like normal aluminum prices unless you have a volume contract.

Scrap is definitely your best bet, so figure up your minimum individual sizes instead of a single block .

Can you use Merc cast iron spacers?
I've got 4.
