Post Gauge Replacement ...

O.K. guys!

Here's another one for you specialist!

I'm wanting to upgrade my gauge panel over the winter. Install gaffrig gauges, bezels, new powder coated gauge panels. The whole nine yards. I don't have gaffrig gauges right now.

My question is: Do I have to change the sending units to match the gauges or are they interchangeable. Its on a 96 Scarab 502mpi. The gauges I have right now are black faced factory gauges for that year. I don't know what the hell they are.

Some input will definitely help me decide whether to pay somebody to do it, or do it myself.

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks!!

29scarab,
I will be doing the same swap on my 1988 28ft Scarab Excel. I swapped the tach and speedo last summer and I am going to complete the change from the VDO gages that came stock on the boat.
I am going to swap the oil pressure and water temp senders to be sure, they are not very expensive.
Be careful where You buy your gages, make sure that they are the real Gaffrig by livorsi Marine. You can go to there sight and get a list of dealer.
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me: [email protected].

I talked to gaffrig a few days ago and ask him the same thing... He said just change the oil temp sensor, the rest will work with the new gauges.

I did my dash 1 1/2 years ago. All the Gaffrig gauges worked fine without changing any of the senders. I suggest you install the gauges and see if they work properly. If a sender needs changing, then do it. BTW- get the GPS Speedo! My Monster Speedo has NEVER been accutate.

TomR I am doing the same to my Excel. I went and covered the black gauge and the two switch panels with white sign making vinyl.I added white gauges with teal bezels. It brightened up the whole dash. I would send photos but I an still working on the gauge cluster. If you are interested I can send you some vinyl to do the same.

Talk to me this weekend...............

Gaffrigs are pure ****......no, fogging uppieces of pure ****........

I'll never buy them again ......also there are KNOCK OFFS called Gaffrig II and Gaffrig Sport . They are WORSE

Im looking at NORDSKOG now to replace mine two at a time. ....

For an eye opener start a thread about GAFFRIGS.............

P.S BTW You are supposed to use the matching sender with the guage..

I would have to agree with you that Nordskog is a much better gauge but I personally don't think they look half as good as a gaffrig with a nice pretty bezel around it. I think that the Nordskog gauges are built to take more abuses and that why you see them on a lot of small cats and boats that take a pounding. Does Nordskog make a white face gauge???????

Other than my speedo not reading right, I've been happy with my Gaffrig's and bezels. I do have 1 gauge that'll fog up slightly once in a while, but that doesn't concern me.

Hey 29 Scarab- I did all the work on my dash. It really wasn't too bad as long as you're not afraid of all the wires. Take a few "before" pictures and label everything! I also put all new switches in my dash, which compounded the # of wires to deal with. I'm NOT an electrician, and most things went back together wthout a fuss. After re-connecting to the boat, I had to do about 4 hours of troubleshooting to get everything working. I figured I saved at least 300 bucks
