Merc 454 MPI dead in water

I was out yesterday running around in my '97 Baja Outlaw 29 SST which has two Merc 454 MPIs. At the end of the afternoon, while idling towards the marina, my port engine quit. It would not turn over when I turned the key...the horn did not sound.... was completely dead. Also the depth guage quit working.... I am guessing a fuse somewhere but I checked around and couldnt find any blown fuses or popped breakers. Anyone have an idea of where to check?

Thanks!

Try wiggling the harness that plugs into the motor. Could be key switch too.

possibly a loose connection at the starter as there is a big fuse there. I lost one last year and EVERYTHING was dead. Also check the harness as someone already mentioned.

hope the engine did not die

I had the same problem. I lost a connection in the main harness connector. Get a test meter !!!!!!

Mine was the big fuse on the starter also check that first.

i've checked mostly everything except the starter which is almost impossible to reach since it's the port engine and the starbord engine is blocking my view/reach.... checked all fuses and breakers...harness, etc. nothing. so I'm thinking it could be a relay? I'll give it another go before I take it to the Merc service and have the hook up the computer.

Check the power going into the starter at the white fusable link and coming out on the other side, this happened to me and that was it..........

I had this happen in my 25 Outlaw. Mine was the leads inot the starter corroded. When I went through, I had a few leads that were rotting at the ground on the back of the block also.

I got nothing when I turned the key. Good luck!

Also, does anyone ever have any issues with this engine and the Bravo One with the pickup on the front of the bulb? I have had problems with sucking mud into the cooling system in shallow areas and clogging.

Other than, don't turn your engine on in less than 3 ft of water, I haven't really gotten any good feedback for a fix.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your input. It turned out to be the 90amp fuse on the starter! I'm not sure if my buddy's neck will be the same after the headstand he did to get it off, but all is well now.
