Americn Offshore 2600 ???
I just purchased an American Offshore 2600. I will be putting a 572ci 750hp motor in it. What type of props is everyone running on the AO? Bravo, Hyrdomotive, etc?
Also, what type of speeds can I expect with 750 hp in this boat. I will be happy in the 90's, but some people are saying I could see more? |
Is this boat from the Louisville area of KY? La Grange?
|
The only prop that I've found so far to work real well is the Bravo 1. I havn't had a chance to try a Hydromotive yet. If planing is questionable with a bravo, then the hydro won't plane at all. If you are running a really high x-dim take a look at the new 5 blades coming out. I've heard some impressive results by reducing the slip numbers.
The top speed is all up to you and your ability to set the boat up. I have 580hp and mine runs 90mph. I'm also disappointed with that speed because I think it should run almost 100. I've actually had people accuse me of lying, just because they have 150 more hp and are running slower. |
Heck I thought racecars only lost 200HP from the dyno to the track. . .sorry for the hi-jack but had to comment.

No the boat is not from the Louisville area.
Thanks for the infor Cord. The people that are setting this up for me know what they are doing, so I should get top performance out of it. I have a lab finished bravo 1 30 pitch that I think I will try for starters. It should give me a good baseline to start from. |
4 BLADE HYDRO AND BOAT SHOULD RUN RIGHT AT 100 WITH 1.36 RATIO IT WILL TAKE 30 PITCH :D
|
If your drive is 1.5, then a 30 won't be enough. I'm running a 1.5 and a 32 for 90. Gotta get that slip down.

I have a 2600 nsx it had a merlin 540 blown in it last summer with app 700hp I ran a 32labbed bravo I prop with a imco drive 1.34 gear ratio I turned that prop 6000 rpms and it was a great prop for it. I have built a 572ci blown dyno results were 800hp at 5200 rpms this winter and I have a 33 labbed hydromotive 5 blade we are going try I will let you know how that prop works out. Speed wise I think you will be very pleased cause that boat should be over a 100mph on gps with 750hp. With app 700hp my boat was 104mph on gps with a very bad slippage problom, slip was like 20%

Yes, the drive is 1.50. I didn't think the labbed 30 bravo would be enough, but it is worth trying to get a starting point. I too have heard good things about the 5 blades and would be interested in any results anyone has from them.

Shortie
Has any one ever tried a one inch or two inch shortie on a ao 2600?
|
I still can't believe Craig is selling you his motor so you can chase him with it:D Maybe it can be tweaked on a little to give em' a run for his money...I know where there are a couple of nitrous plates for 850's:eek: :p Should run 95++. I would consider swapping to a 1.36 and running less prop pitch.
|
CORY YOUR DRIVES ARE DONE. ALSO I CAN CHANGE HIS GEAR RATIO IF HE WANTS TELL HIM TO LET ME KNOW:D
|
A friend of mine has one with a Teague 509 crate motor with 575hp the boat does 89 with 2 people on board with a 27 Mirage (not labbed) and stock lower unit with 1.34 ratio. With an IMCO 2" shorter lower with a labbed Bravo I 30" he ran about 6mph faster.
Hope this helps. Ian T. |
Max,
I would get with merlin and have him change the ratio for you. You should be in the 100+ club for sure!! |
Merlin,
I will get in touch with you and see what I want to do as far as the drive goes. |
JUST LET ME KNOW I HAVE THE PARTS YOU NEED IN STOCK AND I WILL TURN IT FOR YOU QUICKLY. SEE YA CHARLIE

Props
Max
If you need any help in the prop Dept. let me know. I have 30s 32 34s and 36 Bravos left and right all labbed. I just received my hering 6 blades, dont think that I will be using any of the bravos except where the water may be on the shallow side or in a small lake like you have in Laporte.Talk to Craig he knows how to get a hold of me..anyway, best of luck in your new ride!! eliminator219 |
Max velocity . pm me and i will give you ITTLFLIs' cell. He just started a new job and has limited access to the internet. He asked me to give you his number
Thanks Kevin |
I have the 2600 AO that Cayformula is talking about and I've run it at 89mph (GPS) with a 14 3/8" X 27" Mirage Plus with two 225lb boys (yours truly included) aboard. This was at 5200 RPM with a stock L/U with a nose cone. The prop is stock (and looks to be over 10 years old!) This is the best prop I've tried so far in terms of top speed but it can't plane or hold the bow like a Bravo.
When I first set the boat up it was running at about 84 MPH with a 26" Bravo. Cayformula loaned me his Imco 2" shortie and 30" mildly labbed 30" Bravo and it ran up to 90MPH before we backed off and it was still accelerating. I have tried numerous props and just bought a brand new 27" repitched to 29" Houston Prop "Accelerator" which I haven't been able to properly test yet. I would say that the best bang for the buck and all around load carrying prop would be a stock Bravo which you could have labbed by someone like York (they did Cayformula's props for like $200 ea.) Pitch would depend on power, setup (L/U depth) and gearing. I would say if you have over 750HP and 1.50 gearing then you would probably need a 34 to 36" pitch. I would have to agree though that it would be better to run the 1.34 gearing. From what I've seen you shouldn't have any problem running 105 to 110MPH with that setup. At that speed an Imco shortie L/U should definitely help with speed and handling. |
