I'm thinking there's something missing.

On the Alpha drive water pump is there supposed to be a seal between the metal insert and the top of the plastic pump housing?
There's a small bore above the insert and it looks like a seal should be pressed into that space.
The manual doesn't show one, the parts breakdown from Merc doesn't show one either.
All I can find is a rubber slinger and the shaft O-ring seal which goes above the slinger.

Somebody please ease my troubled mind.

Nope, slinger belongs on top of pump. Nothing between the impeller cup and housing.

Didn't want to tear it down then find I didn't have all the parts.
