Pull the oil fill off your valve cover, look inside at your rocker arms & check to see if oil pumps up & out of the top of the rocker. The pump will only pump in 1 direction/clockwise. If the pump is good you will feel a resistance instantly.
Good luck, don't fire her up until you are sure that you have oil flowing.

I do my motors a little different. Maybe some of this will help. I don't have a lift that wil lift the whole motor into my boat but I can lift the shortblock and then bolt the heads on when the engine is in the boat. I will adjust the valve by the timing marks. To check my valves I will pull a compression test with all the plugs out. After this I know I can spin the motor with the starter and see oil on all the rockers and an oil indication on the guage. The rockers should be spraying oil.

Don't burn your starter out. I know with the plugs out I can crank my starter for not very long and my guage will show oil pressure.

THESE BLOCKS HAVE THREE GALLEY PLUGS IN THE TOP OF THE BLOCK IN THE LIFTER AREA THAT ARE COMMONLY LEFT OUT WHEN BLOCKS ARE CLEANED BY SHOPS ALSO THE FRONT PLUGS MIGHT HAVE BEEN LEFT OUT THE TOP ONES CAN BE SEEN THROUGH THE OPENING IN THE HEAD WITH THE VALVE COVERS OFF . Thanks to everyone who helped with my problem. It seems that I forgot to put in the three galley plugs in the block. MESA you hit it on the head. Thanks again. Problem solved.

I was going there but mesa beat me to it. Those only occur in the genVI blocks.

I put my motor back together installed the manifold and noticed in a back 3 1/8 NPT plugs.

well you know what the answer was..

They are in gen 5's also.

I'm just glad it wasn't the oil pump. That would have been a b--ch. considering I just put the engine back in. Thanks again.
