OT: 5.4L Ford 1715 Micro tuner
Anyone every tried the "mirco tuner 1715" for performance enhancements on 5.4l fords? I would like a little better power profile and improved shift points for towing and was kicking around doing this mod or some other chip enhancement. Read about this one on F150online.com.
Any insights would be appreciated!

Vortec 8100 - Chevy, 450 lbs. tq. @ 3200 rpm
Actually I've been wondering about the same thing for the 5.3L in my 1/2 ton Chevy. Goes like a raped ape when it hits passing gear at higher Rs. Sometimes even get a little chirp out of it on down shift, cool. But seems like no low rpm "kanuters" at all, sucks.

Freind of mine put the Hyper Tech tuner in his 2500 and was happy as a pig in poo. Said it had a lot more power. He also is on his third transmission in a 2003 truck... but he does drive like a ass so it mey not be the trucks fault. I'd think about a new 2500, price is right, but they are really ugly in my opinion.
No one knows about improving towing perf on the 5.4l fords?

That's the problem, increase the torque and or hp, and you have to think about added strain on the tranny. Use the added power only when and or as needed there should not be a problem.
Personally, I'd find it difficult to use restraint. I'd be spitting tranny parts all over the place in no time

I bought the programmer for my 1997 f-250 extended cab 4x4 with the 5.4 motor. It did seem to hlp a bit. The shifts were very firm. I put exhaust and ram air on at the same time. I had it dynoed before and after. I picked up about 20 hp over stock. I ended up taking the tuner program off to sell the truck. I could not tell much difference except for the shifting. I think it was mostly the ram air and exhaust. Sometimes the truck would get confused shifting with the programmer and get stuck in gear. I hope this helps.

The shifting is where you will see most of the improvement on the 5.4 with this tuner. There is some gain in HP and performance. You will have a ability to set shift points and redline rpm to your desire for each shift.
We sell quite of few of the programmers at our shop. We also have one on an 03 SuperCrew that gets used at the shop.

When I tow I shift the tranny manually. This way I get the stiff transition between gears and am able to let the engine rev to into the power band. Sounds like without some other hardware improvements the microtuner doesn't do too much. I was suspicious of that because they could not provide pull sheets. If the engine was truly making the additional hp/tq they state, I'm sure they would have sprung for the $300 dyno pull to have data to support the facts.
Thanks for the input guys.
