Angry Low water pickups

OK , mine have "got me" for the last time . One of my drives has dual pickups and for the second time I hit a piece of wood and had it go thru the hole and lodge in the rubber hose in the transom assy.restricting water flow(picked up by water pressure guage before it overheated) so I'm plugging it. Have you gone this and how? I was going to tap the hole and put in a set screw topped off with some Marine-Tex.
