another 500efi vs. 575sci question
#13
I just found out insurance companies jack up the rates for anything over 1000 prop shaft horse power, like 25 to 50 %. They got me for 525's at 1000 HP, with the engine serial numbers, which was an extra $2000!!! Checked all the companies PMA represented, no other options.

I hear what you are saying, I am not worried about a modified engine living - I have a Whippled 500efi now and it's the $hit. My main concern is the drive - on a heavy v-bottom 42' - I don't see drives lasting with with a modified 500efi and marginal life on a stock 575, let alone a hopped up one. It bothers me that there is nothing between a bravo and a ssm. Arnerson conversion??? just a lot of work and a lot of $$.

FWIW, my friend has a 42 tiger with 575/xr, I'm guessing at about 60 hrs so far, no problems, same fresh water lake as me (no launching). I'll confirm hrs this weekend. Mine's a heavy single, no step, 54 hrs I think, looking good.
