Houston Prop results

Bought a new 25 Outlaw this winter. 496 Mag, 23p Mirage. Ran it a few times, easy to blow out. I then decided to send the prop to Darin for the Accelerator design. No more blowout! Added 3 mph gps! But the midrange acceleration is unbelievable! Thanks Darin.

MGE,

I've got the same boat except with the HO. Did the labbing do anything for your mid range cruise? I would like to pick up a little speed in the 3500-4000rmp range.

Thanks

Re: Houston Prop results

I don't have hard numbers, but you can definitely feel a significant increase in acceleration at mid range. In fact, that range is probably the most significant increase in performance. It knocks you back a little. I think overall the performance has increased. Pops right out of the hole, mid range, and top speed. $ well spent.

i love mine darin pitched mine from a 19 to a 21 i tought this would kill my hole shot with a 4.3 v6 but it is actualy better :) top end about 2-3 mph dont have gps sorry guys but i agree with the midrange it is awsome.

I am sending my 23p mirage plus to Houston Prop next week. The mirage does blow out pretty easily. I spoke with Darin on the phone and he was very helpful, I can't wait to try out the prop with the modifications. I hope to get the same type of results.

Darin did all that fancy chit to my Hydromotives this spring. Haven't gone WOT yet, but at all of my previous recorded MPH results at 500rpm increments up to 5100, I have picked up a strong 4 mph throughout the range up to 4500. Saving the WOT run for that special time. :) Funny how we get excited over a couple MPH. ;)

Kurt ,your props were finished last week, will get a tracking number for you.

it should make a big difference ,your props were very thick (for some reason )thicker than most,we made some dramatic changes .you will see a huge difference in ACCELERATION ,top-end and hole shot.(all for the good).

Thanks again!!!!!!!!

Darin

Bajaneil is running the same prop on his new 25 outlaw and is having problems with boat leaning badly to port coming up on plane and cruising. He tried one of my left hand 23 mirage props ran backwards and the hull leaned to the starboard badly coming on plane and cruise. Has anyone else here with 25 outlaw's have the same leaning issues? Is is just the torque of the 454HO on the hull?

Hey Darin,How ya been? How far can you re-prop?A 24 can't go to a 29,right?Sold my HP500efi and built a HP548efi.I'll probably need more than my 26.However I love my 26" that ya'll did SOOO much,I'm gonna keep that one for my "short" prop and have ya'll build me something else,as soon as I figure out what that is.Hope the bride is doing well.BOB

Hey Darin, you did my 21 Mirage +'s this winter. Well it's been crap weather and a busy schedule up here in Canada so I finally put the boat in the water last weekend. I have to say that it is a different boat now. It use to porpoise like a *****, that's gone now. It carries the bow nicely, gets on plane well, mid range is solid and I might even have picked up a couple on the top. Thanks a bunch for a job well done!

James

Re: Houston Prop results

Darin did a great job on my props. The first time he lab finished my stock props I lost 3 mph on the top end with no gain in the midrange, so he reworked them and I only lost another 4 mph - that is a total of 7 mph slower than stock. The third time he reworked the props we gained back 4 mph on the top end, so now I am only going 3 mph slower than stock but lost 7 mph at 4,000 rpm's and both props blow out getting on plane. He promised me the 20% off per his special but has not delivered nor will he issue me a refund his original work. Add on another $120 in shipping going back and forth three times making it a wonderful experience - highly recommend

Re: Houston Prop results

uH...do I detect a bit of sarcasm in that last post??

Uh-Oh...

Darin has done well by me and countless others on OSO. Are you sure you are giving him the right specs first?? His calculations are dependent on how accurate the numbers you are giving him.

Re: Houston Prop results

I gave him details down to the air temperature. He told me that they did not read them out and went the wrong way.

Re: Houston Prop results

Darin, Here is a copy of the documentation I sent with the propellers. You know, the information that you told me you forgot to read before reworking my props. I can also post a copy of the verbal abuse and profanity you used in a Private Message after I posted my results in the Technical Q&A forum. Just for the record, I tried to resolve the issue in a win-win fashion even after your abuse and profanity. So much for your 100% customer satisfaction guarantee.

Re: Hydromotive 4 blades for 2000 Fountain 38
Per our conversation Monday, I am returning the props for rework. The port prop now slips from 2,500 to 3,500 RPM’s and then will begin to hook up. The acceleration is far worse due to the time it takes for the props to hook up. We lost another 100-150 RPM’s on the top end (4,850 max) with the top speed of (69.8) dropped another 4 mph since the first lab work, a 7.5 mph total loss from stock.
Mid-range speeds have not changed from stock to the first lab work to the second re-work:

Stock props:
· Starboard side blow out planning off 2,500-4,000
· 3,500 rpm’s 50 mph
· 3,800 rpm’s 55 mph
· 4,000 rpm’s 60 mph
· Top speed 77.2 mph @ 5,150
· Air temperature – high 90’s with high humidity

First rework:
· No blow out planning off
· Mid range speed about the same
· Top speed 74.1 mph @ 5,000
· Air temperature – mid 90’s with mid to high humidity

Second rework:
· Port side blow out planning off 2,500-3,500
· Mid range speed about the same
· Top speed 69.8 mph @ 4,850
· Air temperature – low 90’s with high humidity

I enclosed a return-shipping label for you; please have the driver sign the Shipment Receipts otherwise they will not be insured for the return.

Regards,
John Sblendorio

<end quote>

After the third time the props were reworked my 4,000 rpm cruise speed dropped 7mph from stock to 53mph.
