Can't fill fuel tank...puking vent?!?

I attempted to fuel-up today for the first time. Tank is a 90 gal. belly tank. Fuel fill is 1 1/2", vent is 3/4" or 5/8"(?). When I tried to pump, fuel would come puking out of the vent. If I pumped s-l-o-w-l-y, gas would fill, but "spit" out of the vent. I had to stop @ $38. Filler neck & vent are side-by-side, mounted about 18" above the tank on the starboard side.

Where should I start looking for a solution. Vent & fill hose appear new(er), of the appropriate type and are not collapsed or kinked.

Thanks in advance,

Make sure fuel vent line has a loop on the top.

Aha...kinda like a plumbing trap? I'll give it a try.

both of my Fountains did/do that. I just listen for it sounding full thru the fill, then pump slowly. I usually can get another 20 gals in this way.

But my tank is near empty. I should be able to put close to 90 gal. in, however it started "overflowing" at 20 (+/-).

On my old boat I just had to find the "sweet spot" as to how far I stuck the nozzle in. If I stuck it all the way till the pump contacted the boat it would puke out the vent.

I do not have a loop in my vent hose on my current or past boat.

Danny, make sure the vent hose is above the fill hose. They are probably wire tied together and the vent hose slipped below the fill hose, just roll them until the vent is on top.

Yes, the vent hose had sagged below the fill hose. However, I corrected that by re-routing the vent hose and still have the problem (I think). I believe the culprit could be the volume of the pump at the marina. It seems to pump pretty hard/fast. On my next trip, I'll try pumping slower and see what happens then.
