Please Help-7.4L MPI Cuts out while running
Hello, Tech guru's
I was out in my fathers boat this weekend. It has a 2000, 7.4L MPI Bravo one combo. I was going along and all of a sudden the engine would cut out for about 3 seconds and come back to life. The strange thing was that the the tach would go from one end to the other on the guage, just like when you turn the key switch on, that beeping sound.
I went back to the dock and found the ignition switch on the dash was tight and corrosion free. The battery had the correct voltage and all the accessories worked just fine. What gives (Loose Wire, Poor Ground, bad ignition)
Thank You
Brian

My uncle has the same motors, happened a few times to him over the years. The first time it was a loose battery cable on the starter. Last year it was the plug wires messing up the computer.

Check your lanyard kill switch. After long use the little plastic fingers on mine would bend allowing the switch to cut-out when on rough water. Eventually it got so distorted it wouldn't start at all.

You will find the large multipin connector behind the engine is loose. Clean and tighten the connections and make sure there is a hose clamp keeping it snug.

Sounds like everyone already gave you the best places to check, also if the boat has a battery switch, check the wires leading to that also. We have seen them loose to. The lanyard sounds like the ticket though.
