engine will not shut off with key?
I have a new used 26' scarab cv, I new it would need some work. One isue is that when the engine is running the alternator is giving a 12v output to the purple ign so when I turn the key off the ign stays live. Also I have not goten into it yet but there is no red wire at the alterator. I recall a 12ga orange / a 12ga black/ and a 16ga purple. I need to hit the water!!!!!! Kyle

You got the wires mixed up on the alternator. If you mix the small red and purple wires this will happen. Try disconnecting the purple wire if there is no small red. On some applications and some alternator installations the purple wire gets taped back and is not used. Then see if motor shuts with key. Check alt. output with a voltmeter on your battery terminals. This should work for you , BBB

Also... do you have an MSD ignition? Some set-ups require a diode to be spliced into the main power line that prevents the juice from the alternator from feeding back into the MSD causing it to keep running even with the key off. This happened to our jet boat and we spliced the diode in and it worked great. Just a thought Ian
