Twin Disk Tranny Blues
After hard run, backed of throttles, smelled oil and had a loud knocking and screeching noise that seemed to be coming from the star. tranny. At first I though it was the engine but the way this thing was clattering if it was the engine it would have come unglued.
I am wondering who is recommended for a rebuild on an MG502 TD tranny. I need to do a little more pin pointing to make sure this is the problem. The trans goes in and out of gear fine, and the prop does not slip when the boat is in neutral. Is there any other checks I may perform to see if trans is bad.
Oh yea! All this racket is made when the boat is running in neutrals. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

After further investigation I have found the problem to be in the engine. I had no idea that an engine that sounds that bad would even run. Now I'm on the look out for a 454 that is approx 490 hp.

KAT--
Yeh. I feel pretty stupid pointing to the TWINDISK as the problem. I pulled the oil pan last night and man what a mess. #1 Rod bearing came apart. luckily the damage to the block and crank is minimal. Looking for a replacement engine as we speak.
