I want to upgrade to a merc mx 6.2
#1
from a 350sbc (merc 260) in my 1985 Cig 20. It will be mated to an alpha ss drive. Is this doable? Aside from needing a new wire harness what else would need to be changed. Any other obstacles in mating a merc mx 6.2 with an alpha ss drive? Thanks a bunch in advance.

the new style coupler for the 1 piece rear main seal motors such as the 6.2 and current 350's and you should be on your way... other than proper wiring for the motor if you are gonna keep it in injected form...

Thanks a lot, by any chance, do you have an idea what the new style coupler costs? and is it a big deal or fairly simple procedure? Please excuse my ignornace I am not very mechanically inclined if at all.

Hello,
I am new here and there is a lot of good info here.
I am thinking also about a 6.2 with an Alpha drive.
But it comes with a bravo ECU so without shift-interrupt.
I know on a 4.3MPI there is a jumper instead of a switch and I think on 6.2 there would be a jumper also. But I don't know if the interrupt circuit is programmed in the ECU?
Is the ECU of 6.2 old type or new type reprogrammable?
Richard
