92 Bravo I upper driveshaft. New part is different?
I have a 92 Bravo I drive that I need to replace the upper driveshaft on. The original cracked where the shaft has the cone shaped bearing surface (part of that cone shaped peice broke off). The problem is the new shaft I bought has only one oil hole in the bottom of the shaft while the old shaft has three oil holes spread out along the shaft. I'm wondering if this is the correct shaft and there was a design change or if I was given the worng part. I'm concerned that there will be a lack of lubrication running the new shaft with only 1 oil hole.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

What is the part number on that shaft. All the new one's have only one hole and that is where they fail also. There is a new one for the X drives. Give Chris a call at Sterndrive specitalities.
315-623-7642. He can shed some light on it.

Re: 92 Bravo I upper driveshaft. New part is different?
The part number on the new one is 45-812773T. So all the new shafts only have one oil hole? Is it OK to run this shaft in a drive that originally had the shaft with 3 oil holes? The drive is just a standard 1992 Bravo I drive behind a stock 454 (330HP) as far as I know.
Thanks for the help,
Rob

Yes that is a good part number. Recently they have made a change and have an upgraded one for the X drives. But that one will work, I believe. Looking at Bam's parts listing for your 92 drive that is the one to use. I wouldnt be afraid to use it. I think Merc is finding that too many holes or too big of a hole is a problem in the high horsepower applications..
Good luck .
