Default Need Help with Ford Transmission

Time to do a Fluid/Filter change on her Cougar.....Dropped the pan and found this.....I have no Idea where it goes? Anybody have and ideas?

Here is the "thingy" and a pic of the the transmission....

question is why did u drop the pan...i hope not to change the fluid???

Uhhhhhhh yeah I did..... and change the filter...every 30,000 miles.....Just first time on her car.....Last time she took it to the local wrench....

I run a transmission business and i used to get alot of calls on the factory shipping plug laying in pan so don't feel like too much of a fool BH,on the assembly line they knock it into pan as trans dipstick is installed. Iv'e even had mechanics at general repair shops say they looked and looked trying to figure out where the heck it goes,Smitty
