I don't know what happened. If I hit something I didn't feel it. Things didn't feel right so I stopped to have a look. At that point there was just a gash in the blade. The rest of the blade was still attached. I didn't have a spare with me and had to run about 25 miles home. When I got back the piece had broken off.

I had the same thing happen to one of my bravo 1's. I thought I broke a motor mount because I wasn't near anything when it broke. I even called the boat builder on my cell to ask what was going on. The vibration was intense. It wasn't until I was wipping the boat down that I noticed an ear was missing.
I was told by the guy that repairs my props that some times they have bad castings. He said he sees it all the time, if its new Mercury minght warrantee it but he said you would have better chances winning the lotto. Buy the way he wouldn't repair it because he said it's too much liability if it breaks again and lands????????? Some one could get hurt. Trash it and buy a new one. What size is it? I have a couple for sale, even a labbed finished one.

Dave, I do believe the infamous Donzi Skeg Eating Monster has been now documented in Maryland waters. Apparently the Aluminum Skegs were no longer filling him up.

As for the prop, I don't think I would ever trust it again.

Could it be fixed? Yes. Would you want to? No.

It appears to be a stock prop. It wouldn't be cost effective to repair nor would it have the integrity that a new one would.

Keep an eye on your props. Cracks along the trailing edges of Bravo 1 props is not uncommon. If they are caught when they are small they can be repaired.

I have 2 just like it. There was a thread on this before saying the merc was standing behind them on warranty if its just throwing the blade not from impact.

BUT when I called them to get them warrantied they said they don't do that any more.That to send them back thru the dealer you purchased them from and they would look at them.This was 4 months ago Sounds like there not standing behind there props.

Yep, you threw a blade. I've been there and the vibration can vary between non existant and violent.

Thanks for the replies guys. It is a stock 26 pitch prop. It's three years old so warranty would be out.

Just prior to me noticing the vibration I past a gauntlet of huge cruisers and there was some serious air time. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Who has the best price on a new one. The best I seen so far is $475 with free shipping.

Surfacing the prop puts a pretty serious flex on the blades. This would have made a prexisting defect fail. Please note the word "prexisting".
