ok i recieved a 88 checkmate 25' gtx convincer form someone who owed me some cash. it has a 454 mag and an alpha drive. i know crapy combo. it has a 87 dual ax. trailer in fair shape, towes fine looks crappy and the bunks need to be re-covered. the cuddy is crap all the pads need to be re-covered. the main cabin is dirty but not in bad shape. the outside is faded and needs to be rubbed out or wet sanded and rubbed. the hull itself is solid and the boat runs well. my question is as follows. i was going to dump the boat off for like $5500 just to get out of it what i was owed but every shmuck that comes and looks at it picks it apart and offers me less. at that price i think someone is gettins a great deal and on principal i am not going to lower it any more. do you think i am better just pulling the motor, drive, gimble, seats, and accessories and selling them seperate. i would think all that stuff would be worth atleast that much and i could sell the bare hull and trailer also. it would give me a project for the winter to rip it down but it is not like i do not have other stuff to mess with. just looking for some idea's

If you are able to do paint work and most of the other work around the interior I would think you'll get you r dollars spent plus the $5500 and then some. If you have to hire out the work you be at the limit to get you money back plus the $5500. I would think fixed up and looking new that boat would still bring low teens. Keep the motor stock with a rebuild to minimize cost.

You can try Ebay, but be sure to set a reserve.

Ugly stuff generally doesn't sell well, even if it is of high quality.
Pretty stuff of low quality usually does sell well.

$5500 is a very fair price.
Parting out will yield minimal return.
Your 454 mag is not a "real" Mag. It is a generic 330. Not worth much.
Alpha? Ditto.

A speed buffer will cost you $120. $30 worth of compound.
It's work, but you gotta make her shine.

Cabin cushions? $300 will do wonders.
Cockpit carpet? Outdoor berber is reasonable. $50.

Should make it a $7000 boat is my guess.
