#1 Alpha Impeller Installation...And Now No Forward
A friend has bought his first I/O, an early 70's Carlson. The boat was left in neutral and the lower unit removed to install an impeller. On re-assembly he finds the boat will not shift into forward.
What went wrong and what's the next step?
Thanks
Bruce

You have to put the drive if forward before you take it apart and leave it there for reassembly then the linkage for shifting is connected.

You should be able to pull it apart put it in forward and reassemble if nothing was bent. I haven't taken one apart YET so I hope it's an easy fix for you.

split the drive. turn the shift shaft CW (when viewed from above) until it stops... and the prop catches when rotating CCW when viewed from rear. when putting the upper back on make sure the shift dog is pointing straight forward. put the boat in forward and then put the drive back on... you are done
