need help finding the right prop
#1
I have a 30' Kachina stepped hull with a 502 mag efi, a Vortech supercharger and Lightning stainless headers. I tried three different props this weekend without much luck. The first was a Hydromotive Quad IV 25 pitch. I pulled 4900 rpm @ 70 mph. the lake here is almost 1800 feet above sea level and 110 degrees so I'm not overly concerned about the low speed, It'll perform alot better at Havasu in the cooler water and lower altitude. The Hydromotive was horrible on boat. It felt like the drive was loose and my bow was plowing. I could also feel the torque and I had to keep constant pressure on the steering wheel. Its an uneasy feeling and I wont be using a Hydromotive on my boat ever again.
The next day I tried a lab finished 26 pitch Bravo I and turned 5500 rpm at about 71. I was into my rev-limiter instantly. Any time I accelerated I was just eating it up, but the midrange power was awesome. This was a brand new 26 labbed from Mercury.
Sunday I tried a brand new 28 pitch Bravo I and lost all that good midrange power that I had with the 26 and could only pull 4900 rmp at 71. I was loaded with six people and It was hot out. I did feel like I could have gotten more out of it if I had a good long run to stretch it out but the lake was ugly and there were way too many boats to be safe.
How can I get back that nice midrange power and still have some room for my top end? I will probably use the 28 at Havasu (lower altitude) I'm sure it'll run just fine with it but I would like something in between and Hydromotive is the only one who makes a prop in a 27 besides a three blade mirage. I cant hardly get on plane with a three blade so thats out of the question and the Hydromitive has way too much stern lift for my boat so its out of the question. Low 70's here in town is fine, I'm more concerned about running too much rmp on my efi motor but I would still like some of that seat of the pants power back.
