Default 502 Long Block $$

Hey Guys,
A friend of mine has a 1996 502MPI with 500+ hours.
The engine is a bit sick; it is still running but the oil pressure comes and goes.
He is trying to decide whether to have this engine rebuilt, or buy a new base engine.
I am thinking of making him an offer for the long block.
What is a 502 Core Worth?

I was thinking more on the lines of $1000...
If it is really worth $2000, then I guess he'll have to sell it to some one else.
Thanks,

If you can get a 502 longblock for around 1000$ complete not blown up,jump on it!!I bought a couple of merc warr motors 454 mag's from comp prod in wis for 1850 complete, sold them for 2200 to local guys.by the time they were done freshening them they had almost 3500 in them (not a real good deal when new ones are only 4900) but they were happy.

I sold a blown 502 short block last year for $500. The bearings were spun and the crank was blue.
