Check both drives while repairing bad one?
I have a 2001 Fasttech 382, only 100 hours on it. Took it to Sandusky this last weekend and rode out to Puttin Bay. Made the mistake of making a comment of how nice everything was working. About 1/2 hour after I made the comment, we headed back to the Marina, cruising at 60+. Boat running great. ALl of a sudden sounded like I bottomed the boat out. Scared the crap out of me. After shutting everything down, found that I blew something in the drive between the en]gine and the lower unit. As soon as I started up the port side motor it rattled like crazy. I brought the boat over to Monreoville Marine and haven't heard back yet. I'm assuming a u-joint or something. My question is, while he's repairing it, should I have them pull the starboard drive as well? The boat has been maintained by professional shops since new, so I don't know why it would have such a mechanical breakdown at low hours. Also, for you Formula owners, I understand ny boat has a 5 year warranty. I didn't purchase the boat new, but the warranty is transferable. Does anyone know if the drive train would be covered. I haven't called Formula yet.

you need to find out what went wrong. it may be a coupler caused by the motor being mis-aligned. if thats the case i would check the alignment on the other motor as well as fixing the "problem" motor alignment.
If it was just a drive gear failure, that happens sometimes.
need to let us know what let go!!

Re: Check both drives while repairing bad one?
My Port drive U-joint is noisey and we pulled the drive and the top seal is leaking so my guy wants to reseal the drive . We pulled the Starboard drive and its not leaking . He wants to seal the other drive also. He is not adiment about it but thinks its a good idea .. I kinda agree but another issue has come up with head/exhaust on Starboard motor so I was thinking about just doing the port drive and get motor done and then come back this winter and do the starboard dive . They will pressure check the Starboard drive. If its ok seems like a plan ?
