Re: Did I blow a trans?
I have a pair of Velvet units with TRS drives as well and I'm with Gary. Strange that the fluid isn't burnt. I'd be checking those other items Gary mentioned before pulling the drive and motor, all those are allot easier and quick to check.

Re: Did I blow a trans?
I talked to Pat last night for a good while. First, his shift levers on the transmissions aren't in the same positions when the dash levers are in the neutral position. This may account for the prop turning slightly while in neutral. I stepped him thru how to center the trans shift lever on the "detent" and then adjust cable to match the dash lever positions.
Also stepped him thru how to re-fill tranny and get them to the proper levels. Again, nothing smells burnt, and fluid that came out was nice red color.
Also, we talked about what got him to this post in the first place - rpm's reving up while getting up on plane. This is a 38KV Scarab, with SSM 3's and 26" cleaver props. This is also his maiden voyage with the boat. We talked about tabs, tucking drives, and nursing it up on plane before giving it any real juice.
Could be a simple cavitation problem. Pat is going to make some adjustments on the trailer and take it from there.
Let us know how you like your new boat!
