My manual calls for a .7 gal/hp for the T53-11 which puts them at a continuous rated 900 hp of 92 gph. Those are FICKLE motors and not advisory especially in hot environments.
The starter/generator is the best attribute to the T53, might sound simplistic but that takes care of the major issue of BATTERY POWER!
There are aluminum cases but that’s another $KK,KKK
The third stage air nozzles on the T58 were suspect but the later 8F’s cured that problem. I never had any problems with them and they are hard to hot start or over temp.

Turbine conversion cost is WAY more than putting triples in the Cougar.
Plus this really limits resale because turbines are very expotic to most boaters.

as for the baot sitting low i'd thinkg that it might sit a little lower BUT you are still removing 1000lbs from the rear of the boat. Granted the engien sthat are left are in the way back but you did still remove a 1000lb that sat only mayeb 30-40" forward of them. Ye sthat weight woudl be forward but it its still in eth way back of a heavy 46' hull.
I was in hot ducks boat (before it was hotducks boat) and it sat kind of low in the water, but not to eth poitn where i'd be concerned abtou it.

Puder & Wannabe,
Turbines aren't even an option, Cool etc. fun to watch other's
run then. I think they may be simple if your in the know with
the proper people. For proper set-up etc., when when it does
come time for service etc. not just anybody can work on them.
Take's the fun, and practability factor right out of it for the average
person.
As far as weight of the engine and one #6 drive, I would actually
be removing 1,700 Lbs. plus what ever else I could chuck out by
changing the cabin etc.

John, glad you removed the turbine idea out of the equation---you had me scared for a moment there. A few years back, Chris Merrill had a 39' Squadron Seven Cig with a pair of turbines called "Jet Set Cigarette". I have to admit it was pretty cool, and very fast, but for the most part not very practical. He told me it burns just about as much fuel at idle as it did at WOT---also it takes a special fuel mixture---they were always having to look around to fuel that hog up everywhere they went and the HIGH WINDING SHREEK sound of the engines sounds cool at first, but they got sick of it REAL FAST and always had to wear hearing protection going into the marinas was a pain, etc. It was a head turner and an interesting conversation piece, but they couldn't do much in the way of normal boating outings. They couldn't really entertain guests on the boat, etc and just did not have much fun with that boat besides having to hire out a jet engine mechanic. When it came time to sell it they could not sell it as is, and had to piece the boat/jet engines out and sell it a bare hull project boat. So, if you think your boat was hard to sell with normal gas engines---just think of how difficult it would be to sell it with jet turbines. With turbines you will elminate your prospective buyers field by probably 99.9%.
Anyway, stick with the tripple gas, big block Chevy's and finish puting that thing together! (you're as about as bad as I am with this performance boating stuff )

Cougarman,
What about this idea ... take out the center engine and transmission, block all fuel and water fittings, remove the center prop. Put her in on the trailer sitting on a ramp to see where the water line rides, then see if you can get up on plane on two engines. If you can do that with the center drive still on, you could proceed to removing the drive and hardware to convert to side by side twins. Ultimate power needed for desired performance could be worked out later.
Can you trailer it out to a quarry, grain elevator, or other type of scales to get a weight on the package? My Eagle trailer for a 382 Formula is just over #3000. Maybe we can work backwards to get an approximate weight of the hull/rigging combinations?
