Whipple Questions
 

I am thinking of adding Whipples to my '02 HP500EFI's this winter. The motors have 200 hours on them and I plan to replace the head gaskets, studs and valve springs - what else will I need to do to make this package complete and relaible? I'd like to know exactly what needs to be done so that I can decide if this is the right route to go or not.

Once completed what can I expect to see for horsepower gain?

Any help that you guys can give me would really be appreciated

If your are going to go thru the motor go all the way & rebuild shortblock. That way you will be done with it. Once you go blowen you will never, I say never go back.

I agree with Turbojack.

I put a Vortech on my 500EFI last spring after I went through the entire thing. Turns out that even though it ran good, the pistons were burnt. The head gaskets were leaking across cylinders. Use Cometic. All I kept was the crank and cam.

I have 100 trouble free hours so far. Go for it.

I Whippled my HP500EFI in May. I was told that I didn't have to do anything else as I only had 70 hours on the engine. It ran for four hours before I lost a head gasket. I did the gaskets(Fel-Pro) valves(Inconnel), studs, springs, etc. Did not touch the bottom end. At the same time I installed a water pressure gauge and found that I was only getting about 14lbs of pressure. 25 lbs is ideal and 14lbs is way low. After much testing and installing a sea strainer and off shore pick we found that the installer had forgotten to install a restrictor plate when the cross-over was installed. Cost a lot because of that brain-fart but it's fine now. As for power, I have heard different numbers but I think it should be around 700 or so.
Wasted this summer trouble shooting but looking forward to '05.

There is no need to touch the bottom end of that motor. PM me and I will tell you all the things you will need to do to have a very reliable turnkey 750 hp setup. I have had a Whipple now for three full seasons with absolutely no issues and it runs awesome!!!

What about fuel lines - do they need to be changed too or are the stock ones ok?

Looks like you covered the important stuff. What kind of head bolts did you go with???

The Whipple setup will come with additional injectors. You should not need to change fuel lines. If it is needed then Dustin would have designed them into the kit. His kits are very well laid out. He does alot of testing before he puts them out to the public.
