I don't think it's very funny that you go around terrorizing the offshore community and neighborhood like that! I mean, I know this is Halloween, but man Roger, you scare me almost as bad as I scare my own darn self! Listen, you do NOT want anything to do with a solid roller cam! They're demonicly possesed. That stuff is EVIL---trust me! Springs and lifters are destined for hell on those things where Freddie Kruger, and that Elm Street Mightmare dude hang out! If you run across a deal on some Merc 1000hp engines---fine, but have those solid rollers exercised right out of those engines and BURN THEM!!! Don't even keep them in your house! Instead, install hydraulic roller cams and the springs to match, yes you will lose some power, but you will lose major headaches and retain A LOT of $$$ along with it just from the reliability factor alone!!! You want RELIABLE, turn-key power in that boat of yours brother. ;)

Just trying to make you laugh a little brother, but serioulsy---don't even think of solid rollers! You've been through enough crap for 5 of us already! :rolleyes:

I believe you are right about the solid roller cam. The ones in my 575 SCi's have been tormenting me for some time now. They are going to have hydraulic cams installed with this rebuild. Maybe the demon will leave the boat after this but he has been a pain in the ass.

I'm interested in the boat White Lightening and it has 1000 SC motors in it. I just wanted to get some information before I jumped in another deep hole. I understand the motors have been detuned to run on pump gas but I don't know how much work was done to them.

The motors in the Sonic are getting a major overhaul and it would be a shame to let it go before I get a chance to enjoy it for a season but that demon has really pissed me off.

That is a cool boat. I looked at it one day at the Aqua Toy Store. Then, this past weekend we were riding by Shooters and it was on a lift. It could have been someone that worked at the Aqua Toy Store though.

A salesman told me it was on a lift at the Aqua Toy Store owners home. After the boat show he said he would send me some pictures.

Everyone thinks its a great boat but its been for sale for a long time. One of a kind and too much power, I guess. He wasn't too interested in trading either.

It has been for sale for awhile. I don't think it is too much power. I think that the problem is it's a one off boat. If you buy it; be prepared to keep it for a long time.

After I reread that too much power, I should have said that kind of power with things that like to break. I'm sure the motors can be made much more reliable without giving up too much HP. I like that and I know many guys that can do it. And #6's

I thought about the one of a kind thing and being stuck with it. At this point in my life, only one more boat may be enough. Look how long the Apaches last.

I checked on insurance and that's OK. My home port is easy to get in and out so the staggered drives are OK. Even the cabin being empty is OK. I would like to design a cabin layout. My wife has some ideas how that should be too.

I just need to get down there and see it. I'm trying to manage a look when we are down for the races next month.

Did you notice any cracks or other problems when you saw it?

Do it Roger. That is a super cool boat. Because it's a one off, you'll get a deal like never again. It would almost be worth it just to part the boat out. The engines could be detuned by changing to a hyd. roller cam, lighter valve springs, lower the boost to about 7 lbs ( it's a low compression engine). Talk to a carb expert at that point because the carbs will need to be reworked to match the new set-up. There's no reason an engine like that won't run for hundreds of hours if you don't beat on it.

Sutphen30-Good question. My parts list and Mercruiserparts website both show cam p/n as 491-818870. Service Manual only shows lift as .5593. Srings are 360# open and 130# on the seat @ 1.88". Mine were rebuilt by Sterling. I plan to call them to see if they changed the cam to a hydraulic roller.
