head gaskets, which ones??
Ive seen alot of different suggestions in many different threads,
i have a 502, iron heads, i believe the bore is 4.47, N/A now, maybe procharged in the future, please suggest both options. cometic, felpro, is there a marine vs auto, what part numbers etc, etc. thanks kevin |

Re: head gaskets, which ones??
Considering how expensive it is to build an engine, a few extra bucks for Cometic head gaskets is the cheapest insurance you can get. Especially if you are planning on a supercharger.
I just built a 540 N.A. motor. After the break in period on the dyno, I went around to re-torque the head studs. The torque didn't move at all. Go for the Cometics. |
Re: head gaskets, which ones??
The Felpro gasket has a wire wrapped in a stainless steel fire ring. Nice for supercharged engines.

Re: head gaskets, which ones??
so sounds like personal preference between the two, but whats the cost difference gonna be, and sounds like i can get the felpro locally too.

Re: head gaskets, which ones??
steve burle built a 1000hp 572 for a hot boat magazine article a month or so ago i talked with him and he runs 12 lbs of boost with no o ring and cometic gaskets. they will not delaminate like felpro do on occasion. spend the extra few bucks and get the cometics.their constrution is a thin viton layer over stainless steel. viton is impervious to all fuels even nitro. check out thier website they will spend time with you when you call when asking all info they need to get you the right gaskets. nice folks too.

Had the Felpro's on my blower motor for 5 yrs w/o any problem. No experience with the Cometics.
