Python- I think I'm right on this but maybe someone else can verify. The gen6 block uses a 1 piece rear main seal and therefore uses a different crank than the gen4 style crank. I don't think there is a 4.25" stroker crank available in the gen6 style. Most of the 540's use a gen4 block and gen4 stroker crank. There is a real seal conversion kit to allow you to use a gen4 crank in a gen6 block but I don't how well they work.

There are 4.25 cranks out there in the 600$ range that will work on a gen 6 block, the only problem is they are eagle or callies dragon slayer. The Eagle,Elgin,Wheeler and sact stuff is made in CHINA and often requires Re-machining plus because of its qustionable origin would not be good candidate for big hp but fine at 600-650 level,Smitty

You are correct you can buy a aftermarket piece to allow you to use Gen 4 cranks on Gen 6 motors. Mine worked fine. I talked to the guys at a local marina they they have done 1/2 donzen of those.

I'm actually I'm in the DFW area but the block is just outside Austin at Full Throttle Marine. Before deciding to have a 540 built instead, options with mine were to sleeve and just replace the rod and piston, sleeve and bore, sleeve/bore/stroke to 496.

If you think it's something you'd consider, let me know. OSO member bobl is who has it. I'm sure he could have his machine shop fix the block back up too. Shoot, he could build it from you if you needed. Otherwise pick it up or have it shipped if that was feasable.

As for price, I'd need to ask Bob for some guidance. I don't know what a fair price would be. Since he's building my 540, I'd like to think it's worth about $10k. LOL

I will have a number for a guy that sell buildable marine 502s. He does a lot of swap meets in TX, but I think he is from OK. I should have the info in about 15 min and then I will call him and get the details.

Hey that guys info:
Bob Sherman
405-740-8561
he said that he had a new 502 for $1100 with cam bearing and freeze plugs in it. Also, he has used stuff as well. I don't know much about marine engine builder in the Houston area. We try to-do all the work our selfs. Lake Conroe is alot of fun!!! lots of nice boats.
