Default ported or aluminum heads

What would be better porting a set of iron heads or going with new aluminum ones?
Application will be a Whippled 540 and my builder wants to have mine ported and I see and hear of a lot of people just buying new aluminum ones...what are your thoughts?

thanks

I would think the Aluminum heads would be better for heat dissipation since your talking boost.

So there is no advantage to porting instead of Aluminum?

I think he quoted me 1200.00 to port

These are some of the parts he will be using...any suggestions?

Jim Valako here on the board can do some great work on those heads. I think he would be in the 1200.00 range also. Aluminum would be better but a lot more money. A set of cnc or hand ported heads set up for marine use is about 3000.00. If you want the best have Jim port a set of Dart 320's. They will flow 400 intake, 300 exhaust at .7 lift and very well at lower lifts too. www.valakoraceheads.com

The site is expired...

So it's about 3k for aluminum heads vs 1200 to have mine ported...is it worth the extra 1800? Where will I see a difference? I'm only looking to make 800 hp.

Add a few $$$$$ to that 1200.00 for new valves. You need Inconel exhaust valves if you are supercharging that motor.

A 540 with the new large single Whipple (3300cc?) and ported Darts will make 900-1000 hp. The iron heads will make 100 to 150 less.
